Static Inductance Extraction by Means of the Monte Carlo Method and Variance Reduction Techniques for Acceleration

چکیده
With increasing signal frequencies inductive effects of metallic interconnections in all kinds of packages become more and more important for the electrical performance of a circuit. During the design process it is therefore of interest to have a stable, fast and accurate simulation tool which is capable of extracting the inductance of large and complicated geometries. This work presents a new program for static inductance extraction, INDEX, i.e. without consideration of the skin effect. The method is based on a current density computation by means of the Finite Element method with an ensuing energy estimate by means of Monte Carlo sampling. Our previous approach has been considerably improved by application of variance reduction techniques. New ideas are explained and an example is shown below.

Background: Various variance reduction techniques such as forced detection (FD) have been implemented in Monte Carlo (MC) simulation of nuclear medicine in an effort to decrease the simulation time while keeping accuracy. However most of these techniques still result in very long MC simulation times for being implemented into routine use. Materials and Methods: Convolution-based force...

Background: Radiotherapy is an important technique of cancer treatment using ionizing radiation. The determination of total dose in reference conditions is an important contribution to uncertainty that could achieve 2%. The source of this uncertainty comes from cavity theory that relates the in-air cavity dose and the dose to water. These correction factors are determined from Monte Carlo calcu...
متن کاملStatistical extraction and modeling of inductance considering spatial correlation
In this paper, we present a novel method for statistical inductance extraction and modeling for interconnects considering process variations. The new method, called statHenry, is based on the collocation-based spectral stochastic method where orthogonal polynomials are used to represent the statistical processes. The coefficients of the partial inductance orthogonal polynomial are computed via ...

In the nano era in integrated circuit fabrication technologies, the performance variability due to statistical process and circuit parameter variations is becoming more and more significant. Considerable effort has been expended in the EDA community during the past several years in trying to cope with the so-called statistical timing problem. Most of this effort has been aimed at generalizing t...
متن کاملA Monte Carlo simulation technique for assessment of earthquake-induced displacement of slopes
The dynamic response of slopes against earthquake is commonly characterized by the earthquake-induced displacement of slope (EIDS). The EIDS value is a function of several variables such as the material properties, slope geometry, and earthquake acceleration. This work is aimed at the prediction of EIDS using the Monte Carlo simulation method (MCSM). Hence, the parameters height, unit specific ...
